We have been there. It’s the end of the month, bills are paid, you won’t get another check for a week or two and you are about to start your weekend. You look at your bank account and you literally have no money. Maybe $15. Not only is that hard, but when you want or need to take a break, shopping can be a fun pastime. Even less fun when you have no money to buy anything though.
1. Don’t buy big brands
Brands may be nice and recognizable by everyone, including you friends, but they can be outrageously expensive. Instead, you can buy off brand designs and clothes that look almost identical. They won’t have the same brand name attached to it but they may look just as good on you.
2. Take care of the clothes you have
You may have bunch of clothes already. They all could be in great shape. Your goal should be to try and keep it that way. Most clothes will tell you on the tag how to handle them. “Use cold water”, “hang dry only”, etc.
If you get a hole in your favorite outfit, try sewing it. Depending on where the hole or tear is, you may be able to fix it without it being noticeable. Knitted sweatshirts are much easier to manage and take care of like that as opposed to a more flow, single staple of clothes.
3. Be creative with your current wardrobe
Being resourceful with your current clothes can help stretch the limit an extra mile staying under budget. Those old shirts that have a couple of holes at the bottom could be cut into a crop top. You can try asymmetrical cuts or different designs!
If you have too many ragged clothes with holes or your outfits are not what they used to be, get creative by taking all of them and making different accent pieces. If they Taking a few color combos of shirts and making them into a vibrant infinity scarf can be a fun, exciting little addition to your ensemble.
4. Sign up for email updates, newsletters or sales
Most stores will give you a certain percentage off when you sign up with an email address. They will also send out weekly sales and discount codes.
5. Add tons of jewelry pieces
Go to a thrift store, flea market or the dollar section at some clothing stores and buy a bunch of small accessories. Buy so many cheap pieces that you can add or remove them almost constantly so you can always change up your wardrobe.
Having little pieces that you can add to the same outfit will make it seem like you have a new set of clothes every time you put it on.
